Voting cards for Turkish presidential polls revealed
The voting cards for the Aug. 10 Turkish presidential elections were unveiled on July 24. The three presidential candidates, Recep Tayyip ErdoÄan, Selahattin DemirtaÅ and Ekmeleddin Ä°hsanoÄlu have been placed on the cards from left to right, respectively, as they prepare for Turkeyâs first-ever presidential election by popular vote.
The leader of ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), ErdoÄan has been prime minister since 2002 and will run against DemirtaÅ, the co-chair and the presidential candidate of Peoplesâ Democratic Party (HDP), and Ä°hsanoÄlu, the former secretary general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and a joint candidate of nine opposition parties, including the Republican Peopleâs Party (CHP) and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).
The election will be held over two rounds, with the first on Aug. 10. If no candidate receives over 50 percent of the vote in the first round, the second round will take place on Aug. 24.
All three candidates continued their campaigns on July 24, with Ä°hsanoÄlu speaking in Kayseri, DemirtaÅâs scheduling a visit to TekirdaÄ and the YoÄurtçu Park Forum in Istanbulâs Kadıköy district, and ErdoÄan addressing a rally of his supporters in the Mediterranean province of Mersin.
