PM: Serbia is Russia's best friend in Europe

MOSCOW -- Serbia has not introduced any sanctions against the Russian Federation, nor will it do that, said Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić.

"It is absolutely clear: in this very difficult time as well, Serbia has confirmed to its Russian partners that it is their best friend in Europe, and Serbia has not introduced and will not introduce any sanctions against the Russian Federation," Vučić told the Rossiya 24 broadcaster.

Speaking partly in Russian and partly in Serbian, the prime minister said that his country's position on this issue was "very clear," and added that important joint projects await Serbia and Russia, and that the two countries "will continue to develop them together."

"Serbia has signed an agreement to build South Stream, period. Our position on this is absolutely clear. We talk about it with our European partners and with our Russian partners. This is a very important energy project for Serbia and Serbia does not change its opinion depending on the current political situation in the world," Vučić said.

Commenting on the situation in Ukraine, Vučić said that the way out of of the crisis was only one, and that "there is no alternative to a peaceful resolution."
