Author Film Festival in Belgrade to kick off Wednesday

BELGRADE - The 20th Author Film Festival will take place in Belgrade from November 26 through December 3.

A total of 21 films will be screened at Dom Omladine and several other Belgrade venues as part of the main programme. The highlight of the event will be new films by directors who have left their mark in the history of the festival: Andrey Zvyagintsev, Roy Andersson, Nuri Bilge Ceylan and Jean-Luc Godard.

Competing for this year's Aleksandar Sasa Petrovic award will be 12 films, including The Wonders by Alice Rohrwacher, Fishing Without Nets by Cutter Hodierne, Chaitanya Tamhane's Court and Zvonimir Juric's The Reaper.

Celebrated Sarajevo-based director Danis Tanovic, the winner of many awards, including an Oscar for the best non-English language film for No Man's Land, will this year present his new work, Tigers.

The festival, which celebrates its 20th anniversary, will also be attended by Indian director Chaitanya Tamhane, whose debut film Court has won the Lion of the Future award in Venice, as well as actor Vivek Gomber, cast in the main role.

Cutter Hodierne, the author of Fishing Without Nets - which has won the best director award at the Sundance Film Festival - and Zvonimir Juric, who will present his new film, The Reaper, have also accepted the organisers' invitation.

Director Samuel Theis, one in the trio of authors behind Party Girl - their debut offering, which won the Golden Camera award at the Cannes Film Festival - will also pay a visit to Belgrade.
