Arrested Bulgarians in Belgrade Have Been Released
The seven Bulgarians, followers of the Buddhist movement Falun Gong, that were detained in Belgrade on Tuesday, have been released on Wednesday evening and are expected to return to Bulgaria.
They were arrested on allegations of their planned participation in an anti-Chinese protest, private bTV station reminds.
The Bulgarians are members and followers of the political and religious movement Falun Gong, which is prohibited in China.
The protest of the movement was foreseen to take place in Belgrade during the economic meeting of prime ministers of Central and Eastern Europe with their Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang.
The reason for their detention was the staging of public demonstrations without permission from the authorities.
The Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and consulate dealt with the case and demanded for the Bulgarians to be released.
