Serbian PM Joins Bosnia Summit After Genocide Case Row

Vucic is attending the summit of leaders from the Western Balkans in Sarajevo on Thursday despite the row over the failed attempt by Bosniak politicians to seek a review of the International Court of Justice ruling and despite rumours spread by Serbian media of a potential security risk.

His visit has been hailed by some as a positive development that could help rebuild relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia.

Bosnia's foreign trade minister Mirko Sarovic told regional television station N1 that it was "essentially a slap in the face to all those who are calling for a conflict".

The summit is being held to discuss EU integration, regional projects related to transport and energy infrastructure, as well as cooperation in other areas such as education and youth policy.

Vucic has said he also wants to discuss the idea of establishing a regional customs union.

"I am not going to Sarajevo to eat cevapcici [minced-meat sausages], I am going to talk to people about the future of the Western Balkans, and I believe we will manage to do important things, to talk about infrastructure and our communication in the future," he told reporters in Belgrade on Monday.

The summit will be hosted by the chairman of Bosnia's Council of Ministers, Denis Zvizdic, and will also be attended by the prime ministers of Montenegro, Macedonia and Kosovo, EU Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn and a representative of the Italian government.

Serbian media have raised questions about whether Vucic's visit will be safe after he was attacked by mourners at the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Srebrenica massacres in 2015.
