Russia offer guarantees for Mladic's release - report

Russia has offered official guarantees to the Hague Tribunal (ICTY) for the provisional release of General Ratko Mladic, who should undergo treatment in Moscow.

The daily Vecernje Novosti, based in Belgrade, writes this on Tuesday.

As stated, the defense filed a motion on Monday to allow the former military leader of Serbs in Bosnia - who is on trial on charges of war crimes and genocide - to be transferred to Russia for the necessary medical treatment in a clinical setting.

According to unofficial information, Russia has committed itself to guarantee that Mladic will not "disappear or flee" and would return when the Hague Tribunal demands this - and accept all the conditions that are usually required in such situations.
