Erdogan comments on Lausanne Treaty not 'in the right direction,' says Cyprus

Cyprus said on Thursday that the call by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for an "update" of the Treaty of Lausanne was not in the "right direction."

"It certainly wasn't a statement in the right direction, bearing in mind the position of the Greek government and the general approach of the international community to the Treaty," Cyprus Government Spokesman Nikos Christodoulides was quoted by the ANA-MPA news agency as saying, in response to Erdogan's comments, made during an official visit to Greece.

Christodoulides added that Nicosia is awaiting for the results of the visit before it can draw any conclusions.
