PG Lazar to present point of view after Justice Ministry report publication

Prosecutor General Augustin Lazar will present point of view about the proposal of Justice Minister Tudorel Toader to dismiss from office National Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA) prosecutor-in-chief Laura Codruta Kovesi, after the Justice Ministry publishes the report.

"Taking into account the media requests to present a point of view on the proposal of the Minister of Justice to dismiss the chief prosecutor of the National Anticorruption Directorate, as well as on the report submitted in this respect, the Office for Information and Public Relations makes the following clarification: the General Prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice is to give a point of view on the two issues after the report of the Minister of Justice has been published and analysed," reads a statement of the General Prosecutor's Office sent to AGERPRES on Friday.

Minister Tudorel Toader presented a synthesis of the report on the managerial activity carried out by DNA prosecutor Laura Codruta Kovesi on Thursday evening in a press statement.

Toader promised that the report will be published on the website of the Ministry of Justice immediately after the statement.

However, since Thursday evening, the Justice Ministry website does not work.

Minister Tudorel Toader announced on Thursday that he will start the procedure for the dismissal of the head of the National Anticorruption Directorate, Laura Codruta Kovesi, for "acts and deeds intolerant to a rule of law state."

''Under the provisions of art. 54 paragraph 4 in conjunction with 51 (2) (b) of Law 303/2004 on the Statute of Judges and Prosecutors, I hereby initiate the procedure for the dismissal of the Chief Prosecutor of DNA. The report, accompanied by the Chief Prosecutor's Revocation Proposal, will be forwarded to the Prosecutor's Section of the CSM [Superior Council of Magistrates], as well as to the President of Romania, to analyse and decide according to the constitutional prerogatives each has," Toader said.
