2/3 of the Bulgaria's Pedestrian Crossings do not Meet the Requirements

About 80% of the country's pedestrian crossings do not meet regulatory requirements for markings. This was announced by the Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov, Interior Minister Valentin Radev and his regional counterpart Nikolay Nankov on Thursday after the end of the investigation, ordered by the Prosecutor's Office at the end of last year because of the increased incidents of "zebras".

The authorities have checked nearly 14 000 pedestrian crossings, most of them being found in Pazardzhik, Burgas, Varna, Haskovo and Stara Zagora. Tsatsarov defined this list of cities as "shameful".

According to him, the regional ministry is about to create a national register of pedestrian crossings, but also develop ideas for changing the legal framework "so that such inspections as this are done annually on the territory of the whole country, and the failure to fulfill the obligations to have consequence and serious sanctions ".
