Fencing: Ana Maria Popescu qualifies for epee individual women event's final at World Championships

Romanian Ana Maria Popescu qualified on Sunday for the epee individual women event's final at the World Fencing Championships taking place in Wuxi (China), while she is already sure to get at least the silver medal at this competition, after defeating American Courtney Hurley, 14-13 in the semi-finals.

In what is her first World Championship final, Ana Maria Popescu will meet Italian Mara Navarria, who eliminated Swiss Laura Staehli, 15-8, in the semi-finals.

In the quarterfinals, Ana Maria Popescu defeated Ukrainian Olena Krivitsa (15-11), and before that Japanese Kanna Oishi (15-9), IItalian Rossella Fiamingo (15-8) and Ukrainian Joan Feybi Bejura (15-9).

Ana Maria already has two bronze medals won in the individual event at the World Championships in 2002 and 2011, and also two world titles she won as part of the Romanian team. AGERPRES (RO editor - Teodor Ciobanu; EN - editor: Cristina Zaharia)
