Commissioner Cretu makes appeal to Transport Ministry to prepare mature projects for European financing

European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Cretu called on Romania's Transport Ministry to prepare "mature projects" for European financing.

"There are issues with regard to the administrative capacity, red-tape has not been curbed yet, procedures have not been reduced and the transport domain is one in which Romania has incurred losses. (...) We are analysing the Bucharest North Railway Station and the Henri Coanda International Airport Metro Line project, the last project submitted by Romania with the Large Infrastructure Operational Programme (POIM), and there aren't any other projects, except the modernization of the water supply and sewerage systems. It is paramount that new projects be presented, because the projects phased until 2020 will end as of next year. The good news is that these projects will be carried out, the bad news is they already use the amounts that should have been allocated to new projects for the 2014-2020 [programming, ed.n.] period. I appeal to the Transport Ministry to prepare mature projects, Sibiu-Pitesti, Pitesti-Constanta, the Braila Bridge. We have the amounts to kick off this programming period the feasibility study for Montana motorway. We have money from the Large Infrastructure Operational Programme, I am surprised, all mayors tell me they receive answers there is no more money," Corina Cretu told on Friday a debate organised in Cluj-Napoca.

European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Phil Hogan and European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Cretu participated on Friday in a dialogue with the citizens titled "A modern budget for a stronger Union", organised by the Faculty of European Studies at Babes-Bolyai University. Attending the event were, among others, Agriculture Minister Petre Daea and MEP Daniel Buda.AGERPRES(RO - author: Marius Septimiu Avram, editor: Diana Dumitru; EN - author: Simona Iacob, editor: Maria Voican)
