Former PM Ciolos: Ready to run for Romania's Presidency, not afraid

The founding chairman of Romania Together Movement, Dacian Ciolos, stated on Tuesday, in northeastern Iasi, that he is not afraid to enter the race for Romania's presidency, mentioning he will only run should he considers that he is thus helping the opposition.

Participating in Iasi in the debate initiated by Romania100 Platform and local RO100 communities, Dacian Ciolos was asked whether he will run in the 2019 presidential race.

"If I knew, I would tell you. I am ready to run. I will do it only if I consider that this candidacy will help win the elections by the political forces that are leading to the country's modernisation, not to weaken the ability of the opposition to win this ballot," Dacian Ciolos said.

He specified it is important the party he initiated be part of the political structure that wins the presidential elections next year's autumn.

Ciolos was then asked by journalists about a potential candidacy at the presidential elections against Klaus Iohannis but refused to give a clear answer.

"Let us establish the party first, move past the European parliamentary elections and we will talks about the presidential elections too. For us it is important to structure the party in the territory, alongside the preparation for the European parliamentary elections, where our objective is to get a good result, and then we will talk about the presidential elections. We have very clear objectives at the presidential elections in our political programme and we will voice them at the right time," Dacian Ciolos answered.AGERPRES(RO - author: Daniela Malache, editor: Antonia Nita; EN - author: Simona Iacob, editor: Maria Voican)
