Romania's primary energy sources, up 2.8pct. and electricity 0,2pct, 8 months in

Romania's primary energy sources increased by 2.8pct in the first eight months of 2018 and electricity sources advanced 0.2pct from the same period of the previous year, according to data released on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

The main primary energy sources in the first eight months totalled 22.919 million tonnes of oil equivalent (toe), up 627,300 toe over the similar 2017 range.

Domestic production totalled 13.963 million toe, down 56.100 toe versus the same period last year, and imports amounted to 8.956 million toe.

During this period, electricity sources were 44.930 billion kWh, up 104.0 million kWh compared with the same period of 2017.

Thermal energy plant production was 16.923 billion kWh, down 11.541.7 billion kWh (-8.3pct). Hydroelectric plant production 13.575 billion kWh, up 3.385 billion kWh (+33.2pct) and nuclear power was 7.414 billion kWh, down 55.7 million kWh (-0,7pct).

Wind power production was 4.188 billion kWh, down 572.9 million kWh over the same period last year, and solar energy produced in photovoltaic plants during this period was 1.237 billion kWh, down by 201.9 million kWh y-o-y.

Final electricity consumption was 37.102 billion kWh, 2.1pct higher than in the first eight months of 2017, with public lighting declining 4.1pct and household consumption by 11.6pct.

Electricity exports stood at 3.970 billion kWh, down 598.3 million kWh.
