Global Website Hails Albanian Village as Hot Destination

Global travel site Booking.com has named a small resort village in southern Albania as one of its top ten "hot spots" for adventurous travellers in 2019.

Its list of the "most stunning spots on the globe" starts with Wadi Rum in Jordan, whose red-sand landscape is likened to Mars and the fabled "Silk Road" city of Samarkand in Uzbekistan.

But coming in at number nine, the only entry from the Balkans or Eastern Europe, is the village of Ksamil in southern Albania, lauded as a "hidden gem" that features "crystal clear waters and secluded beaches".

Visitors are advised to use Ksamil as a jumping-off point for the nearby Blue Eye Lake and the UNESCO World Heritage site of Butrint.

The other winners in the list are resorts or mountain villages in Mexico, Colombia, and Georgia as well as Kigali, the capital of Rwanda in Africa.

The small village of Ksamil forms part of the municipality of Butrint and is home to only a few thousand visitors.
