Katja Fain wins bronze at European Swimming Championship

Kazan – Katja Fain has secured a bronze for Slovenia in the women’s 200 metre freestyle at the European Short Course Swimming Championship in Kazan, Russia.

The 20-year-old clocked 1:53.88 minutes to set a new national record, with a 0.3 gap to Czech Barbora Seemanova in second and an 1.13 lag behind the winner Marrit Steenbergen of the Netherlands.

Viktoria Zeynep Güneş wins gold in European Short Course Swimming Championships

Turkey's Viktoria Zeynep Güneş claimed a gold medal at the 2021 European Short Course Swimming Championships on Nov. 2.

She won the gold in the women's 400-meter medley with a time of 4:30.45 in Kazan, Russia.

With her victory, Güneş became the first Turkish athlete to win the gold medal in swimming at the European Championship, which will end on Nov. 7.

Russia Tightens Gun Controls After Massacre in Kazan School

The gun rampage at a school in the city of Kazan has prompted President Vladimir Putin to order a tightening of Russia's gun controls.

A 19-year-old, Ilnaz Galyaviev, was detained and he is the suspected shooter. Seven children and two adults were killed. Dozens more were wounded and some are in critical condition.

"Russian President has ordered the government to provide aid and medical and psychological assistance to injured, wounded children, to provide the necessary assistance to the families of the victims," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, adding that the Russian guard had been given special instructions to pass a new decree on the types of weapons that can be used in civilian traffic.

Earlier, it was announced that unknown persons opened fire near the educational institution, and later an explosion was heard.
It is stated that a teenager is being suspected of the shooting and that he was detained.
