Traffic closures planned on March 25 for Independence Day parade

Streets in downtown Athens will be closed to traffic on March 25 due to the school and military parades that will be held to celebrate Greece's Independence Day.

No traffic will be allowed on Vassilisis Sofias, Amalias, and Georgiou A Avenues, as well as Herodou Attikou, Panepistimiou, Stadiou, Filellinon, and Akadimias streets.

Plane trees ravaged by killer fungus

A deadly fungus targeting plane trees has reached epidemic proportions in Greece. So far, more than 52,000 plane trees have died, and there is a risk that most of these deciduous trees will be lost.

Scientists stress the need to observe very strict protection measures, as Ceratocystis platani (C. platani) is highly contagious and kills the trees it infects within a few years.

Teachers warned over evaluations

Amid mounting opposition orchestrated by educational federations and trade unionists visiting schools, the Education Ministry has warned teachers to participate in their evaluation scheme or face consequences.

More specifically, according to a circular sent to schools, anyone who obstructs the evaluation can be punished with up to two years in jail.
