Macedonia President Pardons Politicians Facing Charges

Preisdent Ivanov told a press conference on Tuesday that he had not consulted any political parties before deciding to pardon politicians facing crime probes - most of whom are from the ruling parties and are being investigated by the recently formed special prosecution.

Freedom House: Bulgaria Retains Its Status as Semi-Consolidated Democracy

According to the latest "Nations in Transit" report of Freedom House issued on Tuesday, Bulgaria continues to be classified as a semi-consolidated democracy.

Bulgaria's overall democracy score is 3.25, registering a minor improvement from last year when it stood at 3.29 and returning to its level from 2014.

Bulgaria Commissions Upgraded Strandzha Gas Compressor Station

Bulgaria has commissioned the third of four modernized compressor stations, which is transiting 85% of natural gas to the country's neighbours, the Energy Ministry announced on Monday.

State-owned gas grid operator Bulgartransgas has put into operation the key Strandzha compressor station following investment of BGN 70 M, the ministry said in a statement.

Bulgaria Had Negative Balance of Trade in January-February

According to preliminary figures of the National Statistical Institute (NSI) released on Monday, Bulgaria had a negative balance of trade with the EU and third countries in the first two months of this year.

In January 2016, Bulgarian exports to the EU exceeded BGN 2.2 B, which represented a decrease of 1.4 % compared to the same month last year.

Macedonian police clashed with migrants who attempted to illegally enter into Macedonia from Greece on Sunday.

The clash occurred at the Idomeni refugee camp at the Greek-Macedonian border where thousands of migrants have been stranded for weeks after the closure of the Western Balkan route.

Greece to Discuss Migration Crisis with Neighbours at Two April Meetings

Greece will hold two meetings on migration with several of its neighbours in the next two weeks, the country's Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias has said.

The meetings, planned for April 14 and April 21-22, will take place in Thessaloniki, Greek news agency ANA-MPA quoted Kotzias as saying at a press briefing on Friday.

Macedonia opposition to boycott elections

Macedonia's main opposition party said it will boycott a "sham" election in June, as parliament dissolved ahead of the vote which is supposed to end a political crisis.
 
The June 5 election is part of a European Union-backed deal reached last year between the government and the opposition to end months of turmoil.
