Renowned novelist Ahmet Altan accuses prosecutor in defense against coup charges

Renowned jailed journalist and novelist Ahmet Altan harshly slammed the prosecutor who prepared an indictment against him in a court hearing on June 22 as part of the alleged "media leg" of the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), which is widely believed to have perpetrated the July 2016 failed coup.

'US-YPG ties are tactical,' US defense minister assures his Turkish counterpart

Washington is in a "tactical" relationship with the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) militia, which Ankara considers as linked to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis told Turkish Defense Minister Fikri Işık in a letter, according to ministry sources.

Russia's Gazprom forecasts cost of Turkish Stream pipeline at $6 bln

Russia's largest natural gas producer, Gazprom, estimates the cost of building two lines of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline to be $6 billion, Gazprom Deputy Chief Executive Andrei Kruglov was quoted as saying by Reuters on June 22. 

The first line is to run to Turkey, while the second one will ship natural gas to Europe.

Eurobasket 2017 semi-final: Greece vs. Turkey (starts at 4pm)

First ship carrying food departs Turkey for Qatar

A ship carrying 4,000 tons of food for beleaguered Qatar left Turkey early on June 22, marking a change in how essential supplies are being sent to the tiny Gulf state.    
    
The vessel, carrying dry food, fruits and vegetables, departed from İzmir in western Turkey.

A municipality in the northwestern province of Düzce has erected a statue of the famous Rabia sign at an intersection of roads, Doğan News Agency reported on June 21. 

PKK kills young teacher after abducting him in Turkey's east

Members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) have killed 23-year-old teacher Necmettin Yılmaz, who they had abducted last week in the eastern province of Tunceli. 

Yılmaz, who was serving as a teacher in the Çiftçibaşı village of the southeastern province of Şanlıurfa, was driving on a highway when a group of PKK militants stopped his car. 

Japan is Turkey's key economic partner in Asia-Pacific: FM Çavuşoğlu

Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu on June 21 described Japan as Turkey's chief economic partner in the Asia-Pacific area.     

His remarks came after meeting his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida in Tokyo to discuss bilateral relations, and regional and global issues as part of a two-day official visit.
