Tanzania Stampede Leaves 45 Dead as Mourners Bid Farewell to Late President

Tanzanian police say 45 people died during a stampede in Dar-es-Salaam as mourners paid their last respects to the late President John Magufuli.

The stampede took place when thousands of grieving citizens tried to push their way into a stadium in the city to bid farewell to their leader, whose sudden death after a mysterious absence was announced on March 17.

Tanzania denied entrance of Turkish citizens during Erdoğan's visit 'for security reasons'

A group of Turkish citizens were not allowed to enter Tanzania and were sent back to Turkey for security reasons on the day of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's recent visit to the country. 

The Turkish Embassy has requested an explanation for the refusal, with the Tanzanian Foreign Ministry citing security concerns, a Foreign Ministry official told the Hürriyet Daily News. 

Turkey, Tanzania ink deals to boost trade, development

Turkey and Tanzania have signed nine agreements in defense, economic development, and health during a visit by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to the East African country, according to Anadolu Agency.

Erdoğan, accompanied by several Turkish officials and trade representatives, met his Tanzanian counterpart, John Magufuli, at the country's Presidential Palace.
