The Venice Biennale has awarded the 2024 Golden Lions for Lifetime Achievement to Turkish artist Nil Yalter and Brazilian Anna Maria Maiolino.

The artists, who will be making their debuts at the Biennale, will be presented with the awards at a ceremony during the event's opening on April 20 next year.

Big Blue Dot, a nonprofit organization based in Greece, is devoted to advancing the evolution of contemporary ceramics. Rooted in the desire to elevate Greek ceramic art on the global stage, this new biennial event aims to artistic exchange and offer a fresh perspective on Greece's cultural heritage through contemporary art.

Türkiye will be represented by "Open Work" by artist Melek Zeynep Bulut at the London Design Biennale to be held between June 1 and 25.

In "The World as an Open Studio," Greek-Canadian Christos Dikeakos presents a retrospective spanning five decades of work. Born in Thessaloniki and raised in Canada, Dikeakos rose to some prominence in the Vancouver art scene as early as the 1970s and is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts.

Works by 32 artists, spanning from Slovenian post-war existentialist art to contemporary figurative art, have been put on display at the Cukrarna art venue in Ljubljana in a show that discusses human alienation.

A part of the 8th Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art, the group show "Down To Earth" is taking place in Athens, at the Alex Mylonas Museum (5 Assomaton Square, Thiseio, momus.gr), where 15 artists have been asked to contemplate different aspects man's invasion of natural space.

"Here, at this equally captivating and contested site, Manifesta 14 Prishtina is launching an associative inquiry into one of the key questions of the biennial: What role do the arts and art thinking to play in telling stories otherwise, in bringing forth political imagination and engagement, in enacting healing, repair and transformation?" the venue's description reads.

For the first time in the 127-year history of the Venice Biennale, the world's oldest and most important contemporary art fair features a majority of female and gender non-conforming artists, under the curatorial direction of Cecilia Alemani.

Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy opened the Turkish Pavilion on April 20 at the Venice Biennale 59th International Art Exhibition. 

Ljubljana – This year’s Venice Biennale, which will be held between 23 April and 27 November, will promote female artists, as more than 90% of works presented there will be created by women, the newspaper Delo says in Saturday’s front-page commentary. Since female artists remain largely marginalised this is a welcome move, the paper says.
