Greece's Independence Day on March 25 and Greek Orthodox Easter on May 3 will serve as a barometer of the Church's response to legislation passed by Parliament institutionalizing same sex marriage. 

More tension looms between Church and state over the bill for same-sex civil marriage and adoption by such couples which Parliament recently passed, after Greek Archbishop Ieronymos reportedly expressed dismay with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' speech during the House debate on the legislation.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will meet visiting European Parliament President Roberta Metsola in Athens on Tuesday, as part of her campaign to raise awareness and encourage people to vote in the European Parliament elections in June.

The president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, will visit Athens on Tuesday for talks with Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Parliament Speaker Konstantinos Tasoulas.

Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, President of the Parliament Konstantinos Tasoulas and ministers toured the Bank of Greece's vault which was recently upgraded with new security systems, as guests of its governor, Yannis Stournaras. The vault stores 71 of the 151 tons of Greece's gold.

Greece will take part in training of Ukrainian air force pilots for F-16 jets, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Monday.

Denmark and the Netherlands on Sunday announced they would supply the first F-16s to Ukraine.

Nikos Androulakis has caused a stir by stating that PASOK will not agree to support a government headed by conservative incumbent Kyriakos Mitsotakis or leftist opposition chief Alexis Tsipras in the event of an inconclusive election.

Pope Francis arrives today for a three-day visit to Greece, world agencies reported.

The pope is expected to land in Athens at 11:10 a.m. He will arrive from Cyprus.
