U.S. forces on rotation in Bulgaria wrapped up counterinsurgency training that included troops from Serbia, one of Moscow's closest friends in Europe.

Exercise Platinum Lion began July 30 and marks the first large-scale exercise the 1st Cavalry's 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team has conducted in southeast Europe on their deployment.

The Pentagon has announced that about 70 pieces of U.S. military equipment will arrive in Romania from Germany on Tuesday to support Operation Atlantic Resolve.

Other equipment will arrive in Bulgaria and Lithuania later this month, a Pentagon spokesman annonunced on Monday, according to a news release posted on the U.S. Defense Department website.

A Bulgarian-US military training "Thracian Eagle-2" starts Monday at the Graf Ignatievo airbase and will continue until end-June.

The training is a part of Operation Atlantic Resolve of the United States Air Force aimed at guaranteeing the security of NATO allies, according to the Bulgarian National Radio.

US Navy guided-missile destroyer Jason Dunham  will enter the Black Sea on Friday in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve, the US 6th Fleet has announced.

"The ship's presence in the Black Sea demonstrates the United States' commitment to working closely with allies to enhance maritime security and stability, readiness, and naval capability," the US 6th Fleet said in a statement

US Air Force F-15 fighter jets will arrive in Bulgaria next month to join military exercises in the eastern European country, Reuters reported on Tuesday.

Up to 12 F-15s will arrive after Apirl 10, the newswire quoted a Bulgarian defence ministry official as saying.

The deployment, part of the Pentagon's Operation Atlantic Resolve, will take place from April 10 to June 30.

Two Operation Atlantic Resolve military exercises started in Eastern Europe on Tuesday, a Pentagon spokesman has said.

The 173rd airborne Brigade jumped into Smardan Training Area, Romania, for a combined, multinational training exercise with Romanian allies the US Department of Defense quotes Col Steve Warren as saying.

Around 750 US Army tanks and other vehicles and military equipment are already in Latvia for the so-called "Operation Atlantic Resolve" exercises with NATO partners.

The drills will continue for three months, though a US military source quoted by various media outlets argues the equipment will remain in the region even after this period.
