Samos hit by 4.9 temblor

The eastern Aegean island of Samos was jolted by a 4.9 magnitude quake on Saturday, as reported by the Geodynamic Institute in Athens. No injuries or damage were reported. 

The epicenter was in the sea area approximately 25 km north-northwest of Vathy, the island capital, with a focal depth estimated at around 12.9 km.

Greek authorities conducted a search and rescue operation Friday off the coast of a small islet in the eastern Aegean Sea near the Turkish coast after a dinghy carrying migrants to Greece capsized, the coast guard said.

Migrants found on boat off Samos

The Coast Guard has said it rescued 25 undocumented migrants from a dinghy north of Samos island, near the islet of Prasonissi.

The foreign nationals (17 men, 4 women, 3 boys and a girl) are said to be well and were safely transferred to Malgari port, Samos.

They were subsequently transferred to a reception center for asylum-seekers. [AMNA]

Greek authorities report hundreds of migrant arrivals on islands over the past three days

More than 300 migrants have arrived on Greek islands, most near the Turkish coast, over the past three days in separate incidents reported by the coast guard.

On Thursday, the coast guard said authorities had found 107 people the previous day on the islands of Samos, Mykonos and the tiny island of Ro, which lies in the Mediterranean off the southern coast of Turkey.

3.7 magnitude earthquake strikes Samos

The eastern Aegean island of Samos was jolted by a 3.7 magnitude earthquake on Monday morning, as reported by the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens.

The earthquake, which occurred at 7.57 a.m., had its epicenter situated in the sea area 25 kilometers north-northwest of Vathy, the capital of the island.
