Fog causes problems at Thessaloniki airport

Dense fog in northern Greece caused cancellations of flights to and from Thessaloniki's Makedonia Airport on Tuesday morning.

According to the airport's website, five flights from the northern port to city - to Athens, the southern Peloponnese town of Kalamata and the cities of Istanbul and Bucharest - had to be cancelled due to conditions.

At the mercy of storm “Eurydice” is the island of Symi. Due to the intense phenomena at least 12 cars were washed off to the sea at the island’s port.

According to the island’s mayor, Lefteris Papakalodoukas, another 30 cars have been dragged into the sea at different parts of the island.

Qatar Airways announces new direct flights to Thessaloniki

Qatar Airways has announced that it will commence direct flights from Doha to Thessaloniki in March 2018.
Thessaloniki is the second airline destination for the airline company in Greece, as Qatar Airways already has three daily flights to Athens. According to its announcement, the airline will connect Doha to Thessaloniki with four direct flights per week.

Greek airports see increase in arrivals in September

An overall increase of 11.4 percent in arrivals during the month of September was reported by Fraport at the 14 airports it manages across Greece.

According to Fraport, domestic passenger traffic increased by 5.9 percent year-over-year last month, while international passenger traffic rose 12.6 percent, with Thessaloniki, Mytilini and Kos seeing the largest increase.
