Kacin: Political plot behind Djindjic murder to be uncovered

SARAJEVO - European Parliament (EP) Rapporteur on Serbia Jelko Kacin has voiced expectation that it will be revealed who ordered the assassination of Serbian prime minister Zoran Djindjic as the Serbian leadership have the political will for that.

In view of the marking of 11 years since the murder of Djindjic, Kacin said in a statement for Sarajevo-based portal Klix.ba that he did not want to speculate about a political conspiracy behind the assassination and what it could disclose.

"What I have made it clear is that, in uncovering a political plot, full cooperation should be ensured between the judiciary bodies of the neighboring states and Serbia, including Bosnia-Herzegovina," he said.

Kacin did not want to speak about whether an investigation into the political plot behind the murder of Djindjic would be done by the competent prosecution in Serbia, or a special investigative commission or even parliamentary commission would be set up, but said this is Serbia's matter.

Djindjic was the first Serbian prime minister since the fall of the Slobodan Milosevic regime in 2000, and since the Democratic Opposition of Serbia came to power.

He was born on August 1, 1952 in Bosanski Samac in Republika Srpska (BiH). He was gunned down outside the government building on March 12, 2003.

Members of the Zemun gang were instantly suspected of perpetrating the crime because, among other things, in that period the Djindjic-led government was to issue an arrest warrant for several members of this criminal group.
