250 Kosovo officers to be deployed in Mitrovica on Sunday

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA - Regional chief of operations at the Kosovo Police Service Zeljko Bojic stated that 250 members of the Kosovo Police Service would be deployed for the local elections in northern Kosovska Mitrovica on Sunday to protect the safety of citizens and polling places.

In a statement for Tanjug, Bojic said that the Regional Directorate of the Kosovo Police Service has drafted the operative plan which envisages deployment of 250 police officers who will be in charge of guarding citizens' safety.

A total of 30 officers will be deployed in the vicinity of each polling centre, and the number of pedestrian and mobile patrols in the vicinity of polling centres would be increased, Bojic said.

He underscored that one intervention unit would be available during the Sunday elections for the mayor of northern Mitrovica.

Bojic noted that as of Saturday night, the police will take charge of permanent security in buildings where voting would be organised.

The plan will remain in force until the conclusion of voting and the ballot count, he said.

Bojic noted that EULEX and KFOR will closely cooperate with the Kosovo Police Service in the implementation of security measures in northern Kosovska Mitrovica.
