Bozovic: Ivanovic will vote in detention

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA - Vice President of the Citizens' Initiative 'Freedom, Democracy, Justice' (GI SDP) Ksenija Bozovic said on Sunday that the party's leader and candidate for the mayor of northern Kosovska Mitrovica Oliver Ivanovic will be able to vote in the local elections in his detention unit in Pristina.

Bozovic told reporters that the team has been set up and is on its way so as to ensure that Ivanovic performs his civil duty and vote in the detention unit in Pristina.

“GI SDP sent a written request within the legal deadline for conditions to be created so that Ivanovic would be able to vote in his detention unit in Pristina but it received a negative response from the municipal commission,” she explained.

“We had the time to react promptly and thanks to OSCE, a team was set up which will visit the detention unit and ensure that Ivanovic casts his ballot,” Bozovic said.

The municipal commission denied the request noting that Ivanovic is currently located in the territory of another municipality, she said.

Oliver Ivanovic was placed in detention last month on suspicion that he participated in alleged war crimes in 199 and post-war incidents in 2000, including an aggravated murder.

Bozovic addressed citizens by saying that the day has come for them to get the mayor they deserve, a man with ideas who would run the city in the next four years and, as she underscored, Ivanovic is such a man.

“I hope citizens will vote in the elections in large numbers. I expect higher turnout in the afternoon,” she said.
