Canada defeated Sweden 3-0 in the men's Olympic ice hockey final in Sochi to grab the gold medals for a second successive time, and a total 9th in their history.

A goal in each period and complete domination throughout the match ensured a rather smoother final compared to the one in Vancouver four years ago.

Jonathan Toews opened the scoring in the 13th minute of the match. After bombarding the Swedish goalkeeper with half a dozen shots in the second period, Sidney Crosby finally scored his first goal of the tournament, 4 minutes before the end. Chris Kunitz sealed the win for Canada in the 10th minute of the 3rd period.

The Canadians once again put up an outstanding display in defense, one of their strongest areas throughout the tournament.

After taking gold in the women's event, Canada proved its ice hockey might once again.

Sweden lost only 1 match in the tournament, and will go home with high heads and silver medals. The bronze went to Finland, who beat USA in the small final on Saturday.
