Citizens to vote at 8,262 polling stations in Serbia

BELGRADE - Citizens will cast their ballot at 8,262 polling stations, including those in penal institutions, in the territory of Serbia during early parliamentary elections that will be held on March 16, the state electoral commission (RIK) decided on Tuesday.

Polling stations in Kosovo-Metohija and the ones abroad have not been included in this number.

RIK President Dejan Djurdjevic said that the deadline for determining polling stations is February 23, and that Serbia will this time have one polling station less than it was the case in May 2012.

At the meeting on Tuesday, the RIK noted that the polls will be monitored by the limited election observation mission of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

The RIK accredited eight OSCE representatives to observe the parliamentary elections.

Previously, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent the RIK its positive opinion that the OSCE can follow the forthcoming elections in Serbia as an observer.
