Cost of average consumer basket in December at RSD 65,025

BELGRADE - The price of the average consumer basket in Serbia in December 2013 totalled RSD 65,025 or 1.28 average wages while the minimum consumer basket totalled RSD 33,919 or 0.67 average wages, the data of the Ministry of Trade show.

The price of the average consumer basket in December was higher than in November by RSD 318.9 or 0.49 percent, while the cost of the minimum consumer basket was higher than in November 2013 by RSD 268 or some 0.28 percent.

The purchasing power measured by the proportion between the average salary and average and minimum consumer baskets was higher than in the same month in the previous year primarily thanks to the increase of average net monthly wage.

The consumer prices of products and services in December were higher than in November by 0.2 percent on average.

In December, above-average purchasing power was recorded in Novi Sad, Belgrade, Pancevo and Kragujevac.

In all statistically monitored cities, the average net monthly wage covered the minimum consumer basket but it was not sufficient to cover the average consumer basket.
