Indian Embassy marks ITEC Day

BELGRADE - Indian Ambassador to Serbia Narinder Chauhan held a reception on Friday in view of the Day of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) program in honor of successful cooperation between India and Serbia in various fields covered by the program.

Addressing the guests, Ambassador Chauhan noted that Serbia and India have excellent relations and that trade ties are becoming closer and closer, and added that there are solid foundations for improving the relations even further.

This is exactly the field in which ITEC alumni should play a very important role, Chauhan said.

Taking into account the appeal that the ITEC program, which has been running since 2008-2009, has among candidates from Serbia, the Indian government decided to raise the number of participants from 25 to 35 per year, she said.

Over 80 people from Serbia took part in the program, and they attended training programs in various domains, she added.

India is one of the leading countries in the IT industry, telecommunications, computer software and hardware, pharmaceutical and chemical industry, space and nuclear technologies, Chauhan underscored.

Sulejman Ugljanin, minister responsible for development of under-developed areas in Serbia, also addressed the present, saying that the ITEC program created excellent conditions for strengthening economic cooperation between India and Serbia.

Apart from the program, India offers to Serbia scholarships and training programs in the domain of culture, with 24 programs available to eligible candidates from over 135 countries, and trainings in the field of defense, including those at the prestigious National Defense College in New Delhi.
