Night of Museums to take place on May 17

BELGRADE – This year’s Night of Museums will take place under the motto “Great time in museums” on Saturday, May 17, Night of Museums Art and Production Group said in a release on Wednesday.

The 11th Night of Museums in Serbia is part of the European Night of Museums, which will unveil over 30 countries and 3.200 museums and cultural institutions across Europe.

A total of 28 Serbian cities and towns or 90 institutions of culture applied for participation in the manifestation so far, and those who wish to apply can still do so.

Doors of cultural institutions in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Sabac, Uzice, Krusevac, Zrenjanin, Svilajnac, Nis, Pozarevac, Sombor, Jagodina and Leskovac will be open to visitors after dark from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Ana Jovanovic, director and founder of Noc Muzeja, said that this event is a truly successful Serbian brand.

“On May 17 this year, we will have a manifestation that is a rare example of a commercially sustainable cultural project, which means that it only receives minimum financial support from the state and gets the rest of the necessary money from sponsors and ticket sales,” Jovanovic said.

Last year, Serbia hosted the Night of Museums event in 68 of its cities and towns – at 60 venues in Belgrade and 345 elsewhere across the country.

According to the organizer, last year’s event saw 190,000 visits at 60 venues with a total of 115 programs seen by 21,000 visitors.

The fact that such great interest is taken in the Night of Museums in Serbia confirms the quality of the event, which firmly holds third place by volume and significance in Europe.
