NIS introduces new, environmental drilling method

BELGRADE - Naftna industrija Srbije (NIS) has introduced a new drilling method at a well in Kikinda, northeast Serbia, referred to as dry location drilling, NIS stated.

The method is described as one of the most advanced technologies that are used by the world's leading oil companies and also meets the most stringent environmental protection standards. NIS will introduce this technology to four other drilling rigs in the first quarter of 2014, which will cost the company RSD 480 million.

"Thanks to the new technique of dry location drilling, we now have a more efficient and economical drilling process that is in line with the top standards in environment protection in this field. Estimates say that the technology will save RSD 831 million by the end of 2016," NIS manager Aleksandar Bundaleski said.

The equipment NIS installed in Kikinda was manufactured by National Oilwell Varco, one of the world's top makers of oil industry equipment.
