Opinion poll says six parties, coalitions to pass treshold

BELGRADE – Serbian citizens believe that the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS), Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and a coalition gathered around former Serbian president Boris Tadic, as well as the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) and Democratic Party (DS), will pass the threshold at elections scheduled for March 16.

A total of 77.4 percent of the population believe the electoral threshold will be passed by the SNS, and 66.4 and 30.8 percent believe the same will be with the SPS and DS, respectively, shows a survey of public opinion that Ninamedia agency has conducted for Tanjug.

According to the poll, 26.7 percent of the population believe the coalition gathered around Tadic and his New Democratic Party will also pass the threshold.

The poll shows 23.2 of Serbian citizens see good outlook for the DSS, and 22.5 percent think the LDP stands good chances, too.

The survey discovered that 12.6 percent of Serbia believe the United Regions of Serbia (URS) will cross the threshold as well.

Less than 10 percent of the surveyed population think other parties have any chances of passing the threshold.

The poll says that 45 percent of citizens expect a coalition government will be formed by the same parties that make up the outgoing government, while 39 percent think a new coalition will take their place.

About 16 percent of people could not answer the question.

There are differences in the post-election expectations depending on whether a person live in an urban or rural environment, and on how much their monthly income is, the poll shows.
