SDPS leader: Convincing victory as goal

BELGRADE - The Social Democratic Party of Serbia (SDPS) staged a congress in Belgrade on Sunday during which the party leader Rasim Ljajic said that the coalition around the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) needs to score a convincing victory in the forthcoming parliamentary elections so as to carry out reforms successfully.

Ljajic, who was reappointed as SDPS leader, underscored that only SNS as the partner with which SDPS closed a pre-electoral coalition can carry out reforms and that SDPS will contribute to this goal.

“I want us to contribute both to a major victory and reforms which SNS and (its leader) Aleksandar Vucic would carry out,” Ljajic said.

The SDPS leader said that when it comes to the elections scheduled for March 16, one should not rely on public opinion surveys which point to major lead of the coalition around SNS as only the electoral results are important.

Speaking about the situation in the economy and society, Ljajic said that entrepreneurial spirit needs to be developed and noted that development and investments constitute a priority in this aspect.

As a guest at the SDPS congress, Vucic said that the two parties' common goal is defeating all economic hardships and creating a different business environment.

The congress was attended by President of the Association of Independent Trade Unions Ljubisav Orbovic and President of the Union of Employers Nebojsa Atanackovic.

Orbovic said that he hopes the solution would be soon found for the law on labour without any major difficulties that would be satisfying for the interests of both employees and employers.
