Serbia-Macedonia relations are excellent

BELGRADE - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic met with Macedonia's Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki on Friday and said that the relations between the two countries were excellent and there was nothing that could disturb them.

"As for the issues between the Serbian Orthodox Church and canonically unrecognized Macedonian Orthodox Church, politicians should help as much as possible without hurting the relations between the two countries," Nikolic stressed.

There is an initiative to organize a meeting between the two churches at the monastery Prohor Pcinjski and include the presidents of the two countries in the event, Nikolic's office said.

Serbia will do everything to help Macedonia's EU integration, because it has strengthened and expanded its friendly connections in the world, Nikolic stated.

"Serbia nowadays has good relations in east, west, north and south. It has a dialogue with the Kosovo Albanians and is going through reforms swiftly in order to provide a better life for its people," he underscored.

"Fires of unrest are all around us and we have to invest maximum effort to contribute to peace and stability in the region," he emphasized.

Poposki said the Macedonian government was working at an accelerated pace to improve the economy, adding that a 3 percent growth of GDP had been achieved, and that a 5 percent growth was the target for the coming years.

Macedonia's EU integration involves creating a an efficient state governed by law and working in the interest of its people, he noted, adding that the issue with Greece about Macedonia's name is something that should be settled in a reasonable timeframe.
