Serbia is not far behind in education regulations

BRUSSELS - Serbia is not far behind the EU when it comes to the regulations conncerning education and culture, State Secretary for Education Zoran Masic told Tanjug in Brussels on Thursday, after the end of the screening for chapter 26 of Serbia's accession talks with the EU, which refers to education and culture.

"Our impression is that we are mostly in line with the European standards in terms of legislation. The rest of the regulations will be harmonized," said Masic, who led the working group that discussed these issues with EU experts on Thuesday.

Chapter 26 will be among the first to be started and closed during the accession talks, he told Tanjug, adding that he hoped it would happen during 2014.

"What remains is to aettle the issue of recognizing foreign diplomas in accordance with the Treaty of Lisbon, to establish a national framework of qualifications and to adopt an action plan for the education strategy," he pointed out.
