Talks on cooperation between MUP and OSCE mission

BELGRADE - State Secretary at the Serbian Interior Ministry (MUP) Vladimir Bozovic talked on Friday with Odd Berner Malme, head of the Law Enforcement Department of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) mission in Serbia, about a draft memorandum of understanding that should define priorities of cooperation.

The final version of the memorandum states that priorities are cooperation in the fight against organized crime and corruption, raising police accountability by strengthening the capacity and role of the Internal Police Control Sector, police work in the community and further police training.

Bozovic and Malme agreed that cooperation in the fields stated in the memorandum will upgrade the level of capability of police officers when carrying out the tasks within the MUP competences, especially in the fight against organized crime and corruption.

Malme backed reform processes in the MUP that should lead to a higher level of professionalization of police officers, decriminalization and depoliticization of police, the MUP announced.
