Belgrade-Pristina talks to resume Wednesday

BRUSSELS - The dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina facilitated by European foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton will resume in Brussels on Wednesday.

Heading the Serbian delegation will be Prime Minister Ivica Dacic and First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic.

Dacic said earlier that the talks will focus on judiciary, picking up from where they left off in the previous round.

“We came out with our compromise proposals and I do not know what else we can do. It is obvious that (Kosovo Prime Minister Hasim) Taci has guessed it does not suit him to make political compromises in this pre-election period and the question remains if it will be possible to reach a compromise at all,” Dacic said for Radio and Television of Serbia (RTS) earlier.

The talks will also touch on the statute of the community of Serb municipalities (ZSO) and the setting up of the institution.

Speaking at a UN Security Council (UNSC) meeting on Kosovo on Tuesday, Dacic said that there cannot be a permanent solution without an agreement with Serbia and a decision by the UNSC.

Pointing to the necessity of respecting the April 19 Brussels agreement, Dacic warned that Pristina has not completed the preparation of a legal framework for an effective exercise of power by the future ZSO as envisaged by the Brussels agreement and has failed to show the political will to implement that part of the deal.

He added that an EULEX reconfiguration cannot take place without the UNSC playing a part in such developments.

Tomorrow's round will be the second since the beginning of the year and twenty second since the start of the dialogue.
