Chinese investors interested in fruit farming

POZEGA - Chinese investors are interested in Serbia's fruit farming, Dragan Glamocic, Serbia's outgoing minister of agriculture, stated in Budimka factory in Pozega, which he visited on Wednesday together with investors from China.

“Potential investors from China are interested in Serbia's fruit farming sector,” Glamocic said.

On the occasion, guests from China were acquainted with the production capacities of Budimka, one of former leading producers of marmalades, jams, juices and canned fruit.

The minister underlined that agriculture is one of Serbia's greatest potentials, adding that therefore it is necessary to invest in the food industry, whose export yields over two billion euros annually.

The government has potential to continue to attract investors both from the East and from the West.

Pozega-based Budimka was privatized in 2008, and the privatization agreement was terminated in 2010. The company is in the restructuring process. At the moment, there are around 100 workers, and in the last four years the company has been making profit.

After Pozega, Minister Glamocic and Chinese investors visited the fruit-agricultural cooperative Arilje, Arilje-based Stanic company and the largest blueberry and raspberry plantations in this part of Serbia.
