DS and Third Serbia submit lists for Belgrade elections

BELGRADE - Democratic Party (DS) and political organization Third Serbia submitted to the Electoral Commission of the City of Belgrade (GIK) Thursday their lists of candidates for the early City Assembly elections, scheduled for March 16.

DS leader Dragan Djilas, heading the 'With Democratic Party for a democratic Belgrade - Dragan Djilas' list, told reporters that the elections will show what citizens think of things done in the city during his own five-year tenure as mayor and fifteen years of the DS running the city.

Heading Third Serbia's list, dubbed 'Third Serbia - for all the hard working people', is Aleksandar Protic.

After submitting the list, Protic told reporters that the time has come to introduce a responsible policy prioritizing citizens, stressing that Third Serbia is advocating for education, family values and the “silent majority” policy.

The City Electoral Commission has proclaimed a total of six electoral lists valid to date, and the lists of candidates will be made final on February 28 at midnight.

GIK Secretary Sandra Pantelic has told Tanjug that three electoral lists will be submitted on Thursday.

She said that the lists registered so far are those gathering around the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), and the lists of the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS), Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Serbian Radical Party (SRS) and United Regions of Serbia (URS).

The elections will take place at a total of 1,175 polling stations in 17 Belgrade municipalities.

1,576,795 is the number of people who were eligible to vote in the last city elections in Belgrade, which took place on May 6, 2012.
