DS official visits Ivanovic in custody

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA - Member of the Democratic Party (DS) Presidency Vladimir Todoric visited on Thursday leader of the Citizen Initiative SDP Oliver Ivanovic, who is being held in custory in Kosovska Mitrovica.

"Ivanovic is feeling better and recovering. He thanks everyone who supported him and took care of him," Todoric stated, adding that Ivanovic had ended his hunger strike and was now focused on proving his innocence.

The DS demands that every citizen of Kosovo have access to justice procedures that follow human rights, Todoric said, according to a DS statement.

The DS hopes Ivanovic will be allowed to prove his innocence from outside a prison cell and continue his political struggle, he stressed.

Ivanovic was moved from a detention unit in Pristina to one in Kosovska Mitrovica on Wednesday.

He was transferred to Kosovska Mitrovica based on a decision by the Court of First Instance in Kosovska Mitrovica.

Ivanovic started a hunger strike on March 4 demanding to be moved to Kosovska Mitrovica.

He is one of a number of Serbs held in detention in Kosovo for whom the Serbian government has provided guarantees that they will be available to the Kosovo authorities at any time should they be released pending their trials.

Ivanovic was arrested on January 27 on suspicion of involvement in war crimes committed in 1999 and 2000, including aggravated murder.
