Fed Cup: Canada beat Serbia 3-1

MONTREAL - Serbia's Fed Cup team failed to reach the World Group playoffs after losing to Canada 3-1 in Montreal on Sunday in a World Group II first round tie.

Eugenie Bouchard won the decisive point for Canada by beating Vesna Dolonc 6-0, 6-3.

With the tie decided, the remaining singles match between Aleksandra Wozniak and Jovana Jaksic was not played, with the consolation point for Serbia won by Aleksandra Krunic and Nina Stojanovic, who beat Gabriela Dabrowski and Sharon Fichman 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 in the doubles match.

On Saturday, the first day of the tie, Canada took a 2-0 lead after Wozniak beat Dolonc 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 and Bouchard defeated Jaksic 6-1, 6-0.

Canada will advance to the Fed Cup World Group playoffs, with Serbia to play in the World Group II playoffs.
