Mayoral election campaign to last only 5 days

PRISTINA - The campaign for the mayoral election in northern Kosovska Mitrovica will begin on February 17 and last only 5 days, the Central Election Commission of Kosovo has decided.

The commission adopted on Wednesday a list of voters in northern Kosovska Mitrovica that now has 28,429 names, member of the commission Nenad Rikalo stated.

The list has 500 voters more than the one for the election for the local council held in November last year, he noted.

The number increased because the some people reached legal age and many others got their personal identification documents, allowing them to vote, he explained.

The election campaign will last from February 17 to 21.

The commission also decided what the ballot will look like, he said, adding that Oliver Ivanovic from the Citizen Initiative SDP would be the first on the list of candidates, followed by Goran Rakic from the Citizen Initiative Srpska, Musa Miftari from the LDK and Fljorent Azemi from the PDK.

The rerun of the mayoral election will be held on February 23 because the previously elected mayor, Krstimir Pantic from the Citizen Initiative Srpska, refused to sign the required formal statement because the document had symbols of Kosovo's independence, which was declared unilaterally by ethic Albanians.
