Mihajlovic expects Ivanovic, Delibasic to be released
BELGRADE - Certain progress has been made in calming the situation in Kosovo-Metohija, Milivoje Mihajlovic, the head of the Serbian government's press office said on Tuesday, adding that he expects Oliver Ivanovic and Dragoljub Delibasic to be released pending trial.
Commenting on the United Nations Security Council meeting in New York on the situation in Kosovo, Mihajlovic told the RTS morning news programme that the dominant view in the reports by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and UNMIK head Farid Zarif was that certain progress has been made.
Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic said that progress has been made, but also pointed to obstacles to the peace process resulting primarily from the activities of the Kosovo authorities, Mihajlovic said, adding that the reports discussed in the UN Security Council warned all actors in Kosovo.
Mihajlovic said that he expects Ivanovic and Delibasic to be released pending trial as Serbia guarantees that they will always be available to the Eulex mission throughout their trials.
The Serbian government wants to contribute to stabilisation in northern Kosovo, primarily with regard to Ivanovic, one of the candidates for mayor of North Mitrovica, Mihajlovic said.
"Our view is that, by arresting Ivanovic, the Pristina authorities and the Eulex have affected the implementation of the Brussels Agreement significantly, in particular in northern Kosovo, and the government believes that his release pending trial would be a contribution to stabilisation and to the February 23 elections being held in an atmosphere of regularity," Mihajlovic said.
