Mrkic, Schnarrenberger discuss role of CoE

BELGRADE - Serbian Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkic and Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger, candidate of the Federal Republic of Germany for the office of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, conferred in Belgrade on the organization's role in strengthening the rule of law.

Serbia sees the Council of Europe as an organization of great significance, Mrkic stressed during Wednesday's talks, adding that he expects its efficiency to increase even more in the future, states a release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Presenting her candidacy, Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger laid special emphasis on the role of CoE in strengthening the rule of law and promoting the human rights protection system, particularly through efficient work of the European Court of Human Rights, states the release.
