Rich program to mark 150 years of Vuk Karadzic's death

BELGRADE - The organizing committee for the marking of 150th anniversary of the death of the greatest Serbian philologist Vuk Stefanovic Karadzic (1864-2014) adopted on Tuesday the proposal for the jubilee celebration program.

The program features international conferences dedicated to Vuk and his work, central ceremony at the National Library of Serbia, and the publishing of two remaining volumes of the Collected Works of Vuk Karadzic.

The plans also include publishing of 13 books of Correspondence and the second volume of the third book On Language and Literature, as well as a phototype edition of Vuk Karadzic's Treasurebox for the History, Language and Customs of Serbians of All Three Faiths.

The Vuk Foundation and the Foundation of Dositej Obradovic will jointly organize a conference on the topic of "Living traditions in the language of Serbian literature: Dositej and Vuk".

As part of the traditional Vuk Convention held each September in Loznica, the Vuk Foundation and the Institute for Literature and Arts will organize an international seminar on the study of modern Serbian folklore and its place in European folklore research.

A large-scale international conference will be held at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU) in Belgrade with an aim to shed more light on the work of Vuk Karadzic.

As a guest at the committee's constitutive meeting, State Secretary at the Ministry of Culture and Information Dejan Ristic thanked the Vuk Foundation for being the first cultural institution to form an organizing committee for the marking of the jubilee since the Ministry stopped appointing them itself.
