Tadic, Canak, Petrovic sign coalition agreement

BELGRADE - Leaders of the emerging New Democratic Party Boris Tadic, League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina (LSV) Nenad Canak and Together for Serbia (ZZS) Dusan Petrovic signed a coalition agreement on Wednesday which stipulates that they will stand for election together on March 16.

Tadic, Canak and Petrovic told a news conference after signing the agreement that it was only natural that the coalition be formed, stressing that economic issues will constitute the backbone of their election campaign.

Tadic said that all opposition parties, apart from this coalition, are struggling to pass the electoral threshold, adding that no one can possibly forecast the results of the early parliamentary elections.

"I am sure that we will achieve an excellent result," Tadic said, underscoring that no political agreements were reached with the ruling parties or those in opposition.

After the elections, possible coalitions will be considered, and the focus will be on the economic program, he added.

He underlined the need for introducing changes to the political system, adding that he will propose a new law on political parties, a new law on political system, and changes to the Constitution.

The LSV leader said that the decision has been made to run in the elections with trusted partners, and the ZZS leader that the coalition has a clear plan for Serbia's development, and added that Tadic will head the slate.
