Vucic: Wide consensus needed for new government

BELGRADE - Leader of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) Aleksandar Vucic stated that his party will not constitute the government alone even if it wins absolute majority in the election, and underscored that it is important to achieve a wider national consensus on the matter.

It is important to achieve a wider national consensus on the matter and extensive support to SNS would allow the party to claim the adequate position to carry out intense reforms and draw excellent moves, Vucic said in a statement for the Belgrade-based daily Nase Novine, adding that such a position would make it possible for the party to launch a number of activities much faster than was previously the case.

In an interview for the Belgrade-based daily Kurir, the SNS leader said that his party does not have any agreements with anyone and that potential partners in the government will be discussed only after the election is over.

Serbia will not be run by a single party or one man, and we will set up the best possible team comprising representatives of several political organisations and non-party figures who are recognised as good experts in Serbia and abroad and who can help Serbia, Vucic said.

He underscored that Serbia needs full political stability and political peace so that it could progress and function as a normal country.

Famous Italian prime minister Gasperi said 60 years ago that he does all he does for the sake of future generations and not for the sake of future elections and I promise that this will be my motto if people invest their trust in me and SNS, Vucic told Kurir.
