Deputy police chief in Zubin Potok gets 48-hour suspension

ZUBIN POTOK – The deputy commander of the police station in the town of Zubin Potok in northern Kosovo-Metohija (KiM) has been suspended for failure to secure a detainee, who managed to escape from police custody with the help of a group of people on Wednesday, Kosovo Police regional head of operations Zeljko Bojic has said.

The Kosovo Police in Zubin Potok arrested a person for disturbing the public order, after which the police also found that there is an active arrest warrant for the man from 2012 for involvement in criminal offences against internationally protected persons and damage to personal property, Bojic told Tanjug.

The detainee was being held in an additional facility of the police station in Zubin Potok, but as a result of negligence by police officers to secure the arrested person and pressure by a group of persons gathered in front of the police station requiring his release, he managed to escape, Bojic said.

Following a preliminary investigation into the incident, a 48-hour temporary suspension measure has been imposed against the deputy police chief, and further investigative procedures will be conducted by the Kosovo Police and Police Inspectorate to clarify the circumstances of the case, Bojic said.

He said that a “Steel Ring” operation to find the fugitive, carried out by the Kosovo Police, is underway, and the state prosecutor has been informed about the situation.
